JHULAY LAAL STORY 

                                             (  Varun Devaa  - Ishta Dev  -  Savior of Hindu Sindhi's )

 

     Lord Sai Jhulay Laal is the patron God ( deity ) of the Sindhi community.  He is adored by both Hindus & Muslims. He has many names. His birth name was Udero Laal but he is known to the world by the name of Sai Jhulay Laal. Hindu Sindhi also call him Ishta Deva, Varuna Deva, ,Dariyalal, Amarlal, Dhoolhalal, Lal Sai etc, Muslim Sindhi's refer him as Khawaza Pir,Zinda Pir,  Lal Shahbaz Qalandar etc It is often  mentioned in the Rig Vedas ( Old Hindu Religious scriptures )  is the  incarnation of the Hindu deity Lord Varun Dev, also known as Ishta Dev or River God who is the incarnation of Lord Krishna. Some Pundits believe is the Swaroop of Brahma -  Vishnu –  Mahesh..

          

      The word Jhulay means swing  and Laal means boy ( Swinging Boy ).His birth name is Udero Laal .It is said that he was a miracle boy. Whenever his mum ( Mata Devki ) used  to put him In the swing  it used to swing on its own. Hence she named him Jhulay Laal and the world came to know him as  Jhulay Laal. He was adored by both  Hindus&  Muslims. The Hindu Sindhi's  out of love called  him by various names ( Amar Laal,Udaichand, Laal Sai , Dool Halal, Rama Pir,etc  Muslims refer him as Zinda Pir, Khwaza Pir, Shaikh Tahir, Laal Shahbaz Qalandar etc.

 

     The Hindu legend of Sai Jhulay Laal ( River God – deity ) has its historical beginning in the mid 10th century AD in Sindh an erstwhile province of Sindh ( United India – before partition ) and now is a state of Pakistan. During the days of Sapt – Sindhu ( land of seven rivers ) the mainstream sindhu and its tributaries were considered life givers to the people who lived on its banks and drew sustenance from its waters United India ) The Rig Veda was written on the banks of River Sindhu ( Indus River  )Since the days of Indus valley civilization the land of Sindh is known as the land of Saints, Sufi's, Darvesh and Fakirs.The last Hindu King RAJA DAHIR fought braviously against the Arabs but  was defeated tyranously by Mohamed Bin Quasim. During his rule in Sindh and after this period Islam was spread under the powers of the sword instead of conviction.

 

 Towards the 2nd half of the 10th century AD The province of Sindhi was ruled by a tyrant and fanatic Muslim king by the name of Mirkha Shah who disliked the Hindus and wanted to convert them to Islam. He was guided by his courtiers to spread Islam which will take him to JANAT ( Heaven ).One day he called his Prime Minister ( Aahiro ) and ordered him to call the Hindu leaders and told them to embrace Islam immediately if not face death. The Sarpanch ( Head of the Hindu leaders) was a smart man he told the king my Highness we need some time to talk to our community. So he  gave them a week. At this he told the king Oh my highness the province of Sindh is quite big. We have to go visit every home so please give us at least 40 days to talk to our community. The king said OK. This is the final ultimatum after 40 days if your community does not embrace Islam than be ready to face death.

  

      The Hindu Sindhi's came back home with lot of tension. Next day the leaders got together and told their head you should have asked for more time. At this he said didn't you see the anger in his face. Thanks God he gave us at least 40 days to think. He told them not to  panic and have faith in God. He requested them to join him at the banks of river Sindhu and prayed to their Ishta Deva ( Varuna Deva- River God ) ) to help them .The men did not even shave. At last  Lord Varuna  Deva was very pleased and  happy with their prayers and on the 40th day a voice  from the sky was heard  -

OH HINDU SINDHIS DO NOT WORRY. WHENEVER THERE IS INJUSTICE ON EARTH I ALWAYS REINCARNATE AND COME TO SAVE MY FOLLOWERS WHO BELIEVE AND TRUST ME NEVER LOOSE HOPE. I AM VERY HAPPY WITH YOUR PRAYERS AND SACRIFICES. GO BACK HOME AND RELAX DO NOT WORRY  I WILL .SAVE YOU

 Go and tell this fanatic & Tyrant King Mirkha Shah that I shall incarnate and take birth from the womb of Mata Devki in the house of Bhai Ratanchand Lohano in the town of Nasarpur ( Thata ) on Chetichand.  ( Chaitra – Hindu Calendar ) Two Tithis  from the new moon of Chet  ( Chaitra month )

  Mirkha Shah said I am here  you are not going anywhere from here So let me wait till this boy is born and I will crush him under my feet and there will be no one to save you . In the end you will have to embrace Islam if not face death.

The day when Jhulay Laal  was born a miracle hailed . When he opened his mouth his mum saw the flow of the river Sindhu,  a old man siting on a Palao ( river  fish )with a book on 1 hand and blessing with the other hand. Next she saw a warrior  with a sword and riding on a horse. She realized that he was not a ordinary boy he must be our savior and Avatar of Lord Varuna  Deva. Soon the word of mouth went around and all Hindu sindhis were convinced that he was their God and savior.

The news reached the king Mirkha Shah who immediately ordered his Prime Minister Aahiro to present this boy in court so that he could crush him to death in front of everyone. It is said that when the boy came to the court to meet the king there was a sudden lighting and the court was filled with water There was a thunderstorm a old man was sitting with his legs crossed on a palao ( river fish ) with a book on 1 hand and blessings with the other hand. Next moment they saw a young warrior with a sword riding on a horse The king ordered his soldiers to capture the boy. But the winds were so strong and the water level started rising. The soldiers could not come near to the boy. There was a  panic everyone  started running for safety. At this point the king realized that this is not an ordinary boy. He has divine powers  and fell down at the feet of the boy. Started praying Oh Lord please have mercy on me. Please pardon me and save us from this catastrophe if not everyone will die here. At this moment the boy told the King. Don't be stupid. Who are you to give death to anyone I am the supreme Lord and have given life to you all and can take it whenever I want. So do not touch or disturb the Hindus. God is one but has different names. The Muslims call him Allah and Hindus Ishwar. Everyone has a right to live and pray to whomever they want. From that day onward he became a fan of Lord Jhulay Laal and ruled the province of Sindh without any discrimination. The Hindus & Muslims lived in peace with each other. E following their own faith.
